Loquat: We Could Be Arsonists

My design for Loquat’s new album release. We Could Be Arsonists was co-produced by the Rondo Brothers (Foster the People, Deltron 3030, Handsome Boy Modeling School); mixed by a diverse crew that includes Dave Pensado (Mary J Blige, Beyoncé), Count (DJ Shadow), Glenn Rosenstein (Madonna, Talking Heads), and Ben Ellman (Galactic); and mastered by Dave Cooley (M83, Silversun Pickups).

The album has released internationally on Nacional records!

microHabitat @ Gallery Belljar

Gallery Belljar presents Micro-Habitat new works by San Francisco artist Micke Tong.  This exhibition is site specific and devoted to the physical environments that surrounds, influences, and is utilized by the human species on a tender scale.  Micro-Habitat displays dynamic work that ranges from conceptual art  to drawings to installation sculptures which are made with low-rider inspired candy colored taxidermy forms infested by cities, pre-fab homes and other human dwellings made of wood.  The artist also explores San Francisco’s neighborhoods, creating facades that mimic Victorians, Edwardians and present day building aesthetics.

As an Art Director for Computers & Structures, Inc., a Berkeley company that helps three dimensionally engineer architectural designs for the likes of Frank Gehry, the currently developing Bay Bridge expansion and the new Freedom Towers in New York City, the artist gets to witness first hand the designs that has inspired his show.  He explains how he wanted to engage people to have more of a “God’s eye view” of their surroundings and to be conscious of the affects of imperial real estate on our habitat.

Micke Tong is best known for his future forward digital illustrations filled with strong colors, unique shapes and unusual sub-text. Over the years his works have been displayed in Tokyo, Australia, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. Tong resides in the Dog Patch District of San Francisco and is a graduate of the Academy of Art University San Francisco with a Bachelor Degree in Computer Arts. He was member of the former purist art group, Multi Media Art Collective (MMAC) and founder of The National Alliance of Art Scenarios. You can find more of Micke Tong’s work at www.micketong.com.

Sketch Tuesdays at 111 Minna Gallery

– ~ Please note that Sketch Tuesdays at 111 Minna Gallery will not be held every third Tuesday of the month as in the past, but it WILL take place on a certain Tuesday every month. Check here on Fecalface.com to find out when the event is happening, or on the sweet newly re-done 111 site.

During the event we will be having ‘THE FIVE MINUTE ARTIST TALK’.
‘THE FIVE MINUTE ARTIST TALK’ is where our invited artist can describe her/his creative process, influences, or just take five minutes to talk about the president(s). This month’s talk will be Kris D., co-curator of the current monthly group show titled “365” at 111 Minna; if you missed the opening reception this is a nice chance for you to see the exhibit.

Admission is FREE, but 21+ and no babies, please.

111 Minna Gallery is pleased to announce the fifth ‘Sketch Tuesdays’ event of 2008. Each month the gallery hosts an evening of live art making featuring both established and emerging Bay Area artists. Inspired by Southern Exposure’s Monster Drawing Rally, 111 Minna offers patrons the opportunity to see local artists at work and get acquainted with them. It is also a way for artists to meet each other and to be inspired by each other’s creative process.

Sketch Tuesdays offers the local arts community a place to congregate, to talk, to create and to be seen. There is usually room for artists to just drop in and start drawing, but the good seats are reserved for the invited artists.  Art is for sale at reasonable prices and will be displayed until the event closes.
